not sure what you mean by code? i know that my radio now requires me to get a code from a volvo dealrer, havent even done that yet.

The engine module stores codes in it when the check engine light comes on.

 

The code enables the Volvo tech (or your mechanic/you) at the dealership to locate the exact problem, the code that is stored, will be cross referenced with a computer program or book to locate the exact issue that the car has, thats why the car is full of sensors..
