Default Power Steering Pump

Dealer pointed out moisture on the ledge of my power steering pump just below the shaft that holds the pulley and informed me that I would need to replace the pump when the leak becomes a drip. They quoted $760. Considering how accessible this part is their quote seems excessive.

IPD lists the pump at $373 and Euro Parts Direct lists it at $275. Any recommendations on these sources or others?

It appears to be something I can do myself since it is so easy to get to. Am I missing any potential problems?

Last question - should I replace it now or wait for the leak to get worse?

Hello, Keep an eye on fluid level. It might just seep for a long time. Since you're in no rush, pop in on junkyards. I paid $40 for mine. You need only slacken the serpentine pulley, disconnect the hose fittings and reach the mounting bolts through the face of the pulley. There are holes in it. What year is your car? Kira

it could even be the suction hose that goes over to the reservoir. if that hose has a cloth like texture to it then replace it. if it feels like rubber then try to tighten up on the clamp.

I picked up a pump last year from a junkyard in Shelby, NC for $35 which included a 90 day warranty.

When ya get a chance check the back of your power steering reservoir. I recently found that my reservoir is weeping from the center rear so I will be ordering a new one soon. Also check the lower hose clamp like paul c suggested as mine came loose a few months ago.

like i said, check that 3/4" suction hose. if it is a regular rubber hose it will be fine. if it looks and feels like it has a cloth like texture replace it. be careful of the new one, if it isn't correct it will contact the p.s. pulley.
