Default Programmin remotes

My local robber barons want an hour of labor @ $90 and $35 for the software to program a remote that I would supply. They want an additional half hour to do a second plus an additional $35 for software?

My question is, please, should I look at other dealers or is it best to just bend over locally?

Take the remote you want to re-program to the car. Turn the ingition on and off five times leaving it on the last time and push one of the buttons on the remote. It should now be programmed for your car. It worked for me in my 850 R when I programmed one of the remotes from my 94 850 that I got rid of. If this works, I would have a serious conversation with that dealer for trying to rip you off. It may not work for 98's, but you got nothing to lose by trying.

Please let us know if it works!

I have an ALLDATA account and they said the same thing. After trying it and much investigation, it must be done by a dealer with VADIS. Thanks for the suggestion, but I really need to know what other dealers charge. I travel and visiting another city's dealer is not difficult, after all we are only talking about money.

I am reminded of the comedian that said, "Volvos are great cars, but only if you live in Sweden."

If your 70 is similar to a c70, only a dealer can program the remote. The $35.00 being charged goes direct to Volvo for their satelite download. the dealer of course will charge an hour's time. I had this done on the c70 as I wanted a third remote. Don't forget that the dealer needs to pay a mechanic, pay off his building, pay benefits, pay secretarial staff, and the list goes on. $90.00 really is not much for all that!

They want to charge me $35 for software for each remote programmed. I called the dealer 50 miles away and got as far as the Service Advisers voice mail. He didn't return my call.

The 1998 uses a Pin# almost like a radio code. They use their VST to program it.
VST= Volvo System Tester.

I have no arguement with that friend. Should I call Volvo direct for an answer so I can quote them. I know what they would say if I quoted you.

Thanks for the help.

I will call tomorrow. I have found on other sources exactly what you said, 1997 and before is the 5 times on routine, 1999 on is with VADIS, but 1998 is unique with a Scan Tool and a PIN code. I sure hope I get someone who cares when I call tomorrow, as I have never dealt with them before. Let me know if you wish to know what they say.

Thanks again!

I called Volvo and they said that the 1998 is now programmed via what was formerly called VADIS, so "Pay the man!"

I just noticed in the Owners Manual holder a piece of a printed card's upper left corner, inserted into one of the sections. This card says "3V6572". Any idea what it is or why it was saved?

One last question please tech, do shops other than authorized dealers have this Scan Tool? If they do, would they be able to check the database to get that PIN code?
