Default releasing the e-brake....

I am following the instructions given to me in an earlier thread on how to remove and replace my rear rotors(and they are working great, thanks), but the rotor won't come off. I know it has to be the e-brake, but I can't figure out how to disingage it. I backed off the nut at the lever in the car, and it still sets. Any advice here would be appreciated, since the car is up in the air, and I would prefer to get it done today.

Thanks

Tap lightly on the drum area of the rotor a little with a hammer to make sure they're not stuck engaged and just work it off. It takes a little muscle to get them off sometimes. I don't believe they have an adjustment wheel like most do, but by slacking off the nut at the lever 10 turns or so you should be able to get them off with a little effort.

Default My one worry is...

how much is "a little bit of muscle"? I am worried that I will force it off and damage the emergency brake. That being said, it does look like it's stuck to the assembly. And as far as using a little muscle, should I take off the shield that goes around the back to apply this muscle? I can't get a good grip on it.

grip with one hand on each side of the rotor and pull wiggling one side at a time. I don't think you ca pull too hard. FYI: there is a bolt that holds the rotor on, make sure it's out

Thanks JTapper, got the bolt off no problem, as I said, just didn't want to screw anything up by applying too much muscle to it
