Default 2001 V70 jerking when releasing accelerator, no cruise control

I have a 2001 V70 and I have been experiencing some problems with it lately.

I was on a road trip using cruise control and all of the sudden, my cruise control turned off and I could not get it to turn back on. At the same time, I noticed that when I release the accelerator, no matter how slow, the car jerks/stutters. The jerking is very similar to what would happen if you released the clutch (the car is manual) without giving the car enough gas. This problem stuck with me for a couple of weeks and then both problems went away. Since then, the problem has come and gone a few times, but I think eventually I will have to do something about it.

Any ideas? Someone thought I might need new spark plugs, but I want to have some idea if it is something more serious before I take it in for service. I also have a factory recall advisory regarding my fuel pump if that could be the cause. Thanks!

I'm troubleshooting something similar on my '01 V70 XC right now. The Cruise Control problem I've had intermittently since I've owned the car...a year. But the hesitation/bouncing of rpms as I let off the throttle is a recent development.

Of some significance however, is that I just got new plugs on mine a few months ago, after a coil pack went out. So it may be safe to rule those out of your list.

I was also getting a Engine System Service Required with a Code 44. That was a Transmission Speed/Heat sensor. Got that replaced, and no more code, but it still surges/hesitates. I think they are two different problems.

I tried cleaning the MAF and put a new air filter in. That didn't help.

Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to try a new Fuel Filter and see what's up.

While your problems sound similar, the strange thing is yours don't sound linked and mine definitely are. Whenever the surging problem occurs, I can't turn on my CC. Whenever the problem is gone, my CC works fine.

Either way, I have an appointment with the dealership tomorrow to check out my fuel pump, so maybe I can get some hints about my other problem at the same time. I'll report back later this week to let you know what they say.

Hello, Motor mounts? Doesn't jibe with the cruise control symptom, I know.
Vacuum leak-rough running and some sensor disengages the cruise control? Kira

Unhappy 2001 s60

I have a manual 2001 S60 with the exact same problem.

when the CC works, its 100% smooth.
when the CC doesnt work, car jerks when releasing the throttle and I can hear a loud metal ish sound, I'm guessing the weird sound comes from the transmission.

Car also uses about 1L of oil for every 1 000km i drive(no leaks, comes out the exhaust), not sure if that is related to this problem. But thought I should mention it.
