Default Replacing windshield washer pump...

I need to replace the pump on a -04 V70. Do I just remove the inner fender to get to it, or do I have to take off the front bumper (cover)?

Many Thanks,

You have to remove the front bumper. It makes the job 100x easier.

Pull the rub strips off the bumper, and remove the two bolts hidden there. Then, remove the clips at the top of the bumper, just above the grille. Then, there are two screws, one on each side that are inside the wheel well. Turn the wheels one way to access one side, and turn them the other direction to do the other side. Loosening this screw will release the clips on the bumper ends. Now you can slide the bumper straight off the car.

When you replace the pump, lube up the end that goes into the tank with a light amount of oil. That will make putting the pump into the bushing on the tank MUCH easier.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, if you have wipers, remove them. When you replace the bumper, make sure you feed the headlight washer lines back through the bumper before you attach it. I forgot, and had to take it all apart again.

You use a flathead screwdriver to pop off the trim strips? How specifically did you get them off without damaging them?

Default Volvo S80

Hi all, I have a problem with my Volvo S80 2.4 2003, namely windscreen washer pump does not work (it doesn't even make the sound - I guess it's dead, apparently a common issue in Volvo's). I would like to replace it and don't really know how to begin, as the access is severely limited. Is it necessary to remove the bumper or inner fender (I would like to avoid that at all cost)?

Thanks

My v70 is a '98, and I was able to do the replacement without removing the bumper.

I unplugged the fluid level sensor, the pump, and 1 of the fluid lines on top of the tank, and removed the fill-neck. Then I removed the lower pump (watch out for the waterfall), unplugged it, and set it aside. I popped out some of those lower plastic clips on the edge of the bumper skin, to get access to the rear bolt on the reservoir. I then undid the 2 10mm bolts, and the 1 10mm nut around the fluid tank, and it dropped out pretty easily. Fitted both new pumps in, connected them to their respective fluid lines, and put the tank back in place, securing it with the 3 bolts. Then I plugged the electrical connectors back in, and et voila! It worked.

I had to remove both nozzles from the hood, and soak them in CLR, as they were both pretty clogged. After that, had good flow and pressure from the tank!

Hopefully the '04 tank/hose setup is similar. One thing I will say, make sure you connect the fluid hoses to the pump BEFORE putting the tank back in place. The upper fluid pump is 100% impossible to get to without dropping the tank out.
