Default Roof Rack System

Hi,

I have a 2001 Volvo V70 2.4, currently without any roof rails or crossbars. I am wondering what you would suggest for a roof load system to mount this roof box.

I am tempted to get the perrycraft roof rails

http://www.autopartsdeal.com/catalog...aft+Roof+Rails

with this no name cross bar:

This brings the total cost to something like $135, which is much less than going with volvo/thule. does anyone know what I would get by going a more premium rout, or have any suggestions?

Alternatively I could do this:

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Default My 2 cents

Hello, If the first three pieces work together, you're in. Those simpler roof mounted cross bars seem limited, too close together and have fewer attaching points to distribute the weight. Kira

Your 4th item is OEM from a Volvo dealer. Why go with some off brand who-knows-what that you will have to drill and rig to your vehicle. Possible water leaks, wind noise, etc. when you can get the RIGHT part for $20 more. For $20 you will not only be buying a nice roof rack system thatyou know will fit correctly, but also piece of mind.

By the way, I use a Thule box with my Volvo racks. Works like a charm, no hassles.

And have twice the load rating as the junk stuff.

Thank you for your advice. I am going to steer away from the Perrycraft route.

Does anyone know if the V70 can take the roof rails from a similar year XC70? I have found a junkyard that will let me come remove them for $35.

Also, could anyone who has the Volvo clip on load bars let me know how they like them? How easy are they to put on/remove? I know that someone scratched the paint real bad on my parents 850 sedan removing them, but it appears as if they do not have tabs which go into the door frame. Also, they caused the door seals to leak, which was annoying at best.

Thanks,

Craig

What I am advising you to do is - Do not futz around with roof rails, Volvo or not. You will have to drill into your roof to install them. Go with the Volvo clamp on bars. That is what I use with my Thule box and am very happy. So easy. $145 or whatever will save you a lot of grief.
