Default Save me from myself

Hi. New here, so forgive me if I'm the umpteenth person to ask this (I did try a search first)...

Am trying to avoid a minivan and near as I can tell a V70 wagon is the only way to get room for more than 5 people and a stick shift (a real priority for me).

So I found a 2001 V70 T5 w/ 110k miles for sale ($7k)and am tempted.

What are the pitfalls?

My frame of reference is a 02 Passat 1.8T wagon (currently 102k miles), which we've owned since 55k / 2004.

Specific questions:
* what are the weak spots of the 2nd gen V70?
* are there particular problems with 2001 cars, or the 2.3L turbo motor (or the 5 spd man. trans)?
* What kind of money does it take to keep one on the road in the 100 to 150k mile age range?
* What would you be sure to ask about, inspect or investigate before buying one of these?

From years as an (older) BMW enthusiast and now a VW guy I expect there must be a big body of wisdom out there... just I don't have any of it yet.

Please, please share any relevant experience you have! Many thanks.

Throttle bodys are an issue on that model.
Auto transmission are also a problem, but you are looking at a 5 speed ! Thats good!!
Being the first release of the 2G v70 they did not iron out most of the issues untill 2003-04.
Make sure the car has a full service record, oil changes should have been done every 3-4k miles being a turbo.

Alot of posts here start with "i picked up this bargain last week and i have already have a problem" . i see this oh so often, i was one of those people,
If the car has been well maintained you should get a good car with 110k miles on it, but i don't think it will come without it's issues.. but i may be wrong.

good luck

V70 T5 fives speeds are kind of hard to find. I do agree with everything that V70 2.4T said also.
