Default Serpentine Belt Tool Question

My Volvo is the first car I've owned with this kind of accessory belt. I see all kinds of serpentine belt removel tools on E-bay and amazon. Will any of these work for the Volvo? It is a 98 V70R and I'm going to change the timing belt, the water pump and the serp.
Thanks

I started changing timing belt on my '98 V70 AWD last weekend. Haven't finished it yet though. Removing the serpentine belt a.k.a drive belt is easy. You don't need any special tools for it. You can either lever the tensioner in clockwise direction and slip the belt out or simply (and slowly) remove one bolt on the tensioner bracket and then loosen the second bolt to pivot the tensioner off of the belt. However, the point I am stuck right now is at the crankshaft pulley. How do I loosen the big 30mm nut to remove the crankshaft pulley? I am not sure if it has a reverse thread on it so wanted to ask before I start turning it in the wrong direction. I posted a message on the board this morning. Also I am looking for tips on restricting the crankshaft from rotating while I remove the nut. Thanx!

Get an Impact gun and it will come right off. Hard to get off it not. It turns left to loosen. Not reverse thread.

I cant see if it has what you need.
The one you need for the Volvo has a big Square drive. The hole is the Same size as a 3/4 drive ratchet.

This is the set I have. Look for the big square one that is what you will need.

I bought a converter from 1/2 drive to 3/4 inch drive. Works great on a 1/2 in breaker bar. Had no problems whatsoever.

I use a 3/4 inch breaker bar to do mine. Bought it at Sears for $12.00...

On my 99, I used a special volvo tool that bolted to the pulley on the bolt circle around the main nut and had an arm off the side to hold from rotating. I don't know if the 98's use a similar tool. I was able to get it from kent-moore though. Maybe Tech knows if the 98's use a similar tool.

Actually, I used an impact wrench to get the nut off because it was so tight, but you can't use that to put the nut back on. You still have to hold the pulley solid when tightening and use a torque wrench. Again, the special tool made that easy.

Volvo Vets, please correct me if I am wrong about anything.

P.s. - The counterhold I used is shown at the top of page 2 and on page 5 at the following link. Again, I don't know if the 98 can use the same or similar tool...

Default RE: Serpentine Belt routing Question

Hope someone can give me a hand here.

I have changed the timing belt, and am putting the new serpentine belt on.

I ordered a new Continental 6 pk 1743 from FCP. The old belt is still new enough to read the number and it is also an 6 pk 1743. I compared the old and new belts and they are the same length.

I have installed the belt 3 times now, and it still has an inch or two of slack even with the tensioner released.

I have it routed like this;

I did not make a diagram before I released the old one... I usually do but there is one in my Chilton manual.
I have searched here and Matthews and found no other way to route it. I did find one post about someone using the 'alternative method of routing the uses the long belt'.

The only other way I can see to route it would be to go from the crank to the alt before the ac... but then the smooth side of the belt is riding on the grooved alt pulley.

What am I missing?

Thanks,

Go from the crank around the A/C then up over the Alt. then down around the idler then around the power steering and tensioner.
