Hi...

I am new to this board, but I'm hoping to get some advice before I take my car in, so I can be prepared.

Over the past few weeks, about once every two weeks, while stopping, my car feels like it's going to stall. If I give it a little gas, it stops after a few seconds and resumes its normal rpm rate (about 900 at a stand-still). The first time it happened, the check engine light didn't come on right then, but came on a day later. When I took it in, the garage said they didn't see anything.

I had replaced the thermostat earlier this winter and then they replaced it again about a month ago.

The semi-stall happened a few days ago and the shift arrow came on and so did the CEL. I was in a parking space, so I just turned it off. When I came back a few hours later, it started up right away and drove well. I took it to the garage again and when they checked it, they said that the code was indicating a "stored turbo wastegate control" intermittant error.

The code may be DTC P0243. They said I could drive the car, but to take it to a specialty repair place or the dealer. Before I take it in, I'd like to have some idea of what is going on because I don't know much about cars, and don't want to get screwed by them upselling me a lot that I don't need.

The car is a V70, 1998 with about 136k miles.

That was the only code stored?

Thanks... that is the code that's on the bill (I had them do an oil change while it was in). This is the third time I have had the car in - 4.28, 5.9 and then 5.21.

The code from the 28th is DTC P0117 intermittant temp sensor signal.

The 117 code is an ECT code which can make it stall and run really crappy.

The coolant temp sensors are known to go bad.

 

I think that this is what they've replaced twice.

 

If they have replaced it twice then it has to be something else maybe wiring.
