Default Sunroof noise when open

Its finally nice enough to open the sunroof on wife's V70. But it seems quite loud in comparision to others we have owned. The leading edge pop up device is much smaller than ones we owned in the 1980's.

Questions: do those smoked plexiglass-looking devices that fit at the leading
edge of the opening quiet things down? If so, how does one install them -- I trust without drilling holes in sheet metal and using sheet metal screws.

Thanks.

My old Forerunner had one of those shields and was noisy as hell. I had to just tap the button and close it slightly to get rid of most of the noise. This has been true on all my vehicles with sunroofs regardless of brand.

I'll have to check it out. My question arose from wife's complaint. She gets to drive it. I get to drive to the nearby gas station, and for service.

I see those deflectors all the time, yet never needed one on an old BMW or an '86 Corolla. Those roofs had a piece that popped up at the leading edge of the hole when you opened the roof (they were metal, not glass, btw). This one, in the short trip I took with it, makes quite a roar. And I don't have crossbars on the roof rails, either. Maybe it was just the strong wind we had that day.

Thanks.
