suspension issues 2001 v70
Hi- This is my first Volvo- I am enjoying the car, However when it's a rough road or pot hole I can't avoid, it seems like the entire suspension is going to shake loose. Rattles comming from the front and rear- anybody else have this issue? My 2001 has just over 80,000 miles- Thanks
by 80k miles, most of your front suspension is pretty worn. Likely you will need struts, spring seat, lower control arm bushing and sway bar end links. Did these on my car at 110k miles and makes a huge difference. Drives like its brand new as it should. The front suspension is basically all new.
You might need inner tie rod too depending on how bad that is worn. But that affects mainly steering crispness + alignment.

Dealer charges a lot to do these. Find a indy to save you some money. Just parts from the cheapest online source will be
- $250 for 2 struts
- $200 for 2 lower control arms (with bushing in them)
- $60 for 2 spring seats
- $40 for 2 sway bar links
I'm guessing 4 hours for experienced indy at say $65/hour. They will probably charge you more for parts than the lowest online source.
Ball joints might be okay and not need replacing. Inner+Outer tie rods are probably $200 for both sides + 2 hours labor.
Probably looking at $1000 to get the front suspension replaced.
