Thanks for the reply, I'll check that out. Had to put it back together, but I'll tear it back apart later today. Also looks like there may be some electronics attached near the bottom (almost looks like the ECU) but I can't recall if it moved with the manifold or not. I'll check for that extra bolt near the PS pump and post what I find.

Thanks!

Thanks, @tech, for the tip on the 17mm bolt. It is by the alternator (the power steering pump is up by the coolant res.) and it goes through a banjo nut into the left side of the manifold. You have to remove some of the tubes one one side or the other of that junction in order to put the nut back on the reservoir and it's a lot easier with screw-type hose clamps. All in all, the procedure for the 1999-2000 doesn't really resemble the procedure for 1998. The fuel line goes up through the manifold which creates a unique challenge for getting the manifold past it (you have to disconnect the line to get the fuel rail off). That 17mm bolt—you have to have the manifold practically off in order just to get to it and generate enough torque to get it off (I actually disconnected the hoses and vacuum line first, which is almost a difficult). Once the manifold is off, the oil trap is pretty easy. As are most of the hoses. All except the large PCV hose assembly which is as close to impossible as I've seen as far as getting it off the back of the engine. I'm pretty sure you have to pull the head off at the very least. So I blew it out with a compressor and called it a day. Putting everything back together is nearly s difficult as getting it apart, and you just have to believe that, somehow, it should all go back together.

Thanks again for the advice!

How does this differ on 1996 Volvo 960 Wagon with a 24 Valve?

Sorry to resurrect and "oldish" thread, but I've "heard" that on the '99 and later cars (with ETM) one doesn't have to removed the intake manifold, but instead simply removing the ETM is sufficient. I'm about to replace the pcv system on my '99, and thought I'd get a few more opinions from board members. Does removing the ETM provide enough work space and clearance to pull the oil trap? Anyone done the procedure without removing the Intake?
TIA
-Andrew
