Default Thinking about Volvo V70 2.5T

Hello,
so I am thinking about getting 1997 Volvo V70 2.5T as my first car.
Can someone share their experience of driving, owning a Volvo V70?
What are the major cons and pros of this Volvo model? Should I look up for a different Volvo as my first car?
Thanks.

this is essentially a sorted out 850 turbo with the newer body style. These are very reliable but its still a 15 year old car so you should be ready to do some of your own maintenance. There's some good sticky posts on the 850 board from RSPI on what to check for when buying a used 850/V70, so start there. Mostly look at 1) AC system. If its not working it could be the evaporator or compressor clutch (evaporators are buried deep in the dash, very expensive repair). 2) PCV system - can clog up and push oil out. Mostly because owners didn't change oil on schedule so best to ask for any available maintenance history 3) timing belt. these cars are interference so you want to make sure the timing belt has been replaced within the past 70K miles or so. If not you'd want to replace asap 4) any check engine lights or flashing warning lights? if you see any get the codes to determine if its any easy fix (ie a vacuum leak can throw all sorts of codes) or a more serious issue. To note, I've owned a 95 855T since new, have 200K+ miles and it is a daily driver for my daughter. I do 75% of the maintenance and have a good independent I trust who is ok with installing parts I buy online or used.
