I'm looking to outfit my '01 V70 to tow. I read the info in the manual about capacities with brake assistance and so forth. One thing recommended is the Trans cooler. Is there an OEM do-it-yourself one that Volvo make, or are they only available after-market?

 

Reading about how tempermental the Trans is on the V70, I thought it a wise investment to do this.

I tried replying to other topic-related threads, but the forum would not allow it with the problems. Sorry for the redundant thread.

 

Hidden-Hitch sells some after-market ones that they say work with the V70, but they look like something you would need to weld a custom mounting bracket or kit for.

Do these work with engine coolant from the radiator?

 

Not sure about the previous models but the P2's have trans coolers. They are built into the radiator.

Have a look at the right hand side of the rad and you will see two thin pipes (one at the bottom and one on top).

 

I found this part available to the XC90s: 8685834 Oil Cooler Kit. It mounts to the radiator and comes with all the hardware, hoses, etc.

 

Thanks! Do the transmissions typically have the holes in the casing already for the coolant circulation?

 

It connects inline with the standard trans cooler built in to the radiator.

To answer your question: Its not coolant, but trans fluid that circulates through it.

Does anybody have a link or know where I can purchase the Volvo OEM or equivalent transmission oil cooler?

 

I have found some generic ones, but would prefer the one made to mount in my V70.

 

I've searched unsuccessfully. I'm still not too familiar with the Volvo parts world yet.
