Default Transmission question

I have read a number of comments on this forum re a "neutral control or switch" and an associated problem and fix via re-mapping but do not recall the symptoms - here is mine:

2003 V70 2.4T - 34,000 miles - 5 spd auto

Something less than 10% of the time, when I accelerate at light throttle from a stop, the 1 > 2 shift (assuming the car starts in first) is rough - the car slows, the engine races briefly and then shifts with a jolt.

Is this the sympton of the problem or is it something else? (bought the car used with a Volvo certified warranty so I should be covered for any major problems)

thanks
