Have a 2001 V70 2.4T with 60k miles. Last night after a 45 minute drive the car no longer would go in reverse and would only engage in drive if the engine was revved above 3k rpm. The car made it home and showed no warning lights or messages. This morning with the motor cold the tranny operates in all gears. Should I look at a series of convenience store robberies to fund a new tranny or could it be something else.

I've been trying to figure why it would fail when it's hot and work again when it's cold? Can't get the car to the dealer till tuesday at the soonest so thought I'd go fishing for answers here first, thanks in advance for your help....

 

Classic transmission going bad.

Slim chance a software issue but possible.

 

just got off the phone with a couple of dealers getting quotes and was told by one dealer $3400 the next dealer told me there are two different tranny fot the '01 V70 2.4t one goes for $3600 and the other $4800 and you guessed it my need the $4800 one. when I asked what the difference was they just said differnt part numbers. Can somebody help me understand this.....

 

I think it is one is Geartronic and the other is regular.

 

Buy a used tranny and put it in or have it put in. I would not spent that much money. No way.

 

I have a 2000 v70 t5. apparently they came with a GM (General Motors) or AW (Aisin-Warner) transmission. I have the AW transmission which (i'm told) MUST have the ridiculously expensive transmission fluid in it. Mine misbehaves when its hot also. It has differnt problems but they also occur only when its hot. Different oils have different qulaities at different temperatures. I'm having the volvo fluid flush next week. I'll let you know how it goes.

I've had 2 software upgrades and they have reduces the problem but not completely. We'll see how we go next week.

 

Uncle, I am glad to see that you are having the flush, i think it will help your car.
I had one last week, you do not need to buy the Volvo tranny fluid.
I contacted Mobil who make the fluid they told me that the fluid is produced for other car makers as well, the fluid is Jws-3309 or in Australia Atf-3309.
I went to Cronulla sutherland Automatics, they charged me $220.00 for a total flush.
heaps cheaper than volvo, they wanted about $700.00 . I also used Toyota T4 tranny fluid which is Atf-3309, look at the link provided and you will see what i mean..
my car has no more 2-3 flair it's as smooth as....
