Default Trapped Inside

Both passenger side interior door handles are now inoperable.
Doors can only be opened from outside. First pass side rear went, then pass side front several months later.
Central locks still work, but when interior handles are pulled, there is almost no "give." It's like they're glued.

Anyone ever run into this? I have two new assemblies ready to install- do I need to screw with the door glass, or can I work them in the same way I worked them out of the donor car that I pulled them from?

Thanks in advance!

They can and do fail
No, nothing to do with the glass.
You need to remove the door panel but before you start changing lock assys. inspect yours.
You may just need to fix or replace the inner pull handles

Thanks for the tip about the handles. Just in case, I grabbed an extra handle that wasn"t fitted to the lock assembly cable.
It sure is a tight fit in there- does the metal plate that the window motor is bolted to need to come off for install? (Fears of window glass smashing down)...

I removed the assemblies from donor cars without doing so; but imagine on install, it will be a bit difficult.

Thanks for your time.

JRL, I know you said nothing to do with the glass, does that mean leave the metal panel with the power window motor alone and just work the lock assebly in?
Thanks,

There are video's on youtube about the S70 door latch replacements which show you how to remove the door panel and replace the handles. It's not hard at all and you will NOT have to mess with the glass at all.

No just the lock assy, but check the inner handle connection first

Thanks JRL and rspi.

I went ahead and took a cautious approach. The cable retaining clamp/ clip had failed on both handles. What a cheapo design- the clamps that retain the cablle end "pin" to the door handle and also serve to depress it in the housing are made of plastic. Mine were both totally shot. Too bad I couldn't have just replaced the handle, but the clips are attached to the main lock assembly cable, amd didn't appear to be interchangeable.

Instead of installing the "new" assemblies I had from donor cars -one of which had a zip tie holding the cabe down/ and pin in place (looked factory), I just secured the retaining pins on existing handles by re-securing the clamps.
One had jusy worked itself loose, the other was completely trashed, I improvised. I would like to post some pics of how I did it, as a cheap or temporary fix for this issue. I will do so shortly.

I figured I could return the donor parts if I didn't actually need them, or hold onto them for future use.

FWIW, door panel removal was a breeze, no need to "re-glue" anything, and very few retaining clips were damaged. Quite a bit smoother than I imagined.

Thnaks again to both of for taking your time to help me with this issue.

Good. Every time I pull a door panel off our S70 the door panel clip brackets fall off. So I use liquid nail to glue them back on.
