Default to turbo or not to turbo

Greetings. I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I am planninga new v70 purchase later this year and a debating whether I should get the 2.5t or the regular v70. Is there a significant performance difference? Are there any reliability concerns with the turbo chargers?....any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Default to turbo or not to turbo

Hello Vaughn, I too debated the same issue, my sister has an 850 turbo wagon 179k on it no turbo problems still drives like new. I tested both versions of the V-70 and it came down to this for me...we have a 4 year old boy, my wife is the primary driver, and the extra cost of premium fuel. I love our 04 V- 70 2.4 ASR, it has enough punch(she drove a nissan sentra for 14 years) decent fuel economy (23mpg all the time better on highway) and a beautiful ride, softer(imho)than the turbo version.

Go ahead and get the Turbo..you'll regret it if you don't. Stock N/A are way underpowered.

Just purchased an 04 2.4 V70 three weeks ago. I do not regret getting the na engine at all. It has plenty of power for passing and cruising at 70 plus on the interstate. Also, fuel mileage is most impressive for this size car on the highway. Much better than the 2.4 Subaru Outback I traded for the V70.

Default RE: to turbo or not to turbo

we just traded my VW GTI VR6 in for a new 04 V70 ASR as well. I miss the performance, but the extra space with the luxurious fit and finish was worth it. A hint to new prospective buyers. Right now is a good time to buy. You can get into an 04 loaner or demo Volvo for $24k with less than 5000 miles on it. We lucked out and bought a brand new V70 ASR w/ premium package for $24,500. (MSRP $33k) If you want a volvo, buy now before the deals go away until next year.

The only bad thing I have seen on these cars is to make sure you follow the services to your service manual.Ive seen people not follow them and have the engine sludge up on them.Seen it more on the turbo motors then on the n/a motors.Just follow the manual and change the oil every 7,500.
