Turbo working??
I just bought a 2001 V70 T5 and it seems slow!! When I first drove one I thought they were rockets, then I finally buy one and I'm not impressed...it seems like forever for the turbo (if its's there!) to kick in and when it does it only pulls through a small range of RPM's. It's a little better when I swith to manual mode on the transmission but I find myself trying to push the throttle through the floor...wanting more!!
Is it possible that it's not working properly?? I just remember driving the non-turbo model and thinking that the turbo is a must! I guess I'm looking for the same kick in the pants I got when I test drove it for the first time (not the car I have now, but THE FIRST).
Am I just being picky?
Thanks.

With the T5 you should have plenty of kick in the butt experience.
1. Check all your vaccum lines for cracks, tears and complete blow outs.
2. Check all turbo hoses for the same things as the vaccum lines.
Replace if needed. SAMCO doesn't make turbo hoses for the 99+ models. If your a member of Volvospeed you can get in on a groupbuy that is going on through the Members Announcements section. But you must be a member of VS, and you can get turbo hoses for your 01 model through StylinMotors INC. Again to get the GB deal you must be a VS member. These are made out of silicone and not rubber like the OEM ones are. Replace vaccum lines with silicone versions too. StylinMotors INC. sells these as well. Also it is a good idea to replace them anyways as they probably haven't ever been replaced.
3. I would seriously look into getting a boost gauge. It can tell you how much your boosting and how much vaccum your making. Autometer makes great gauges, and you can get them for a good price on E-gauges.com also for a pod to put it in go to http://www.gaugepods.com they make single and triple gauge pods for our cars. If you only go for the single get it from there not IPD. IPD's sells for $35 and GuagePods.com sells for $15 and they are the same thing. Plus having this gauge is a good diagnostics tool in the first place.
4. Did you test drive this exact car just wondering. It could be your turbo itsself, possibly have it looked at by a MECH.
5. Your ETM if your vehcile has one, and I think it does. The ETM might be acting up and might need to be replaced. I forget if they were a problem on the 01 models or not. Someone else can chime in here.
6. Your car could be in LIMP mode for some reason as well.

Thanks for the reply! I did test drive this car before I bought it...just not hard. I assumed since it was a T5 like another one I drove that it was the same. I had the car COMPLETELY gone over by a local Volvo master tech and he said the car was in great shape with no codes or problems...but I didn't tell him to check the turbo, is that something that they look at anyway?
BTW, the car is not slow, it's just not the kick I thought it was or that I remebered. I'll probably take it back to the mech and ask him to check the turbo.
Thanks again!

If i purchased a volvo i would have the following done:
* New Plugs
* oil/filter change Semi synthetic suited to your climate.
* new air filter/k&n
* change all the fluids
* maybe even put a volvo approved injector cleaner through it.
* run it on PULP premium petrol/gas
this might improve your volvo
v70 2.4t

Supposedly the dealer did most of that before I took the car home. The car came in on trade literally hours before we bought it, so they kept it for a couple of days changing plugs, oil change, filter, etc. THEN, after that I took it to a local Volvo independant repair shop and he went over the car (did find out that it had a gas leak and upper motor mount was broken, but was fixed immediately) for 3 days and told me that the car had no codes and was in overall good shape (just some aftermarket brake pads squeaking). Looking back on it, he did ask me a couple of times if I had purchased an extended warranty (which I didn't), could he have been keeping a bigger problem to himself? Nah...that's crazy, right? Anyways, I'm going to take the car to him again and specifically ask to have the turbo checked.
I drive the car regularly and this is my only complaint...so far!

Also, I was doing some research and found out that there is a free ECU software upgrade for the 70 series (especially the T5) for poor peformance. I found it on a Volvo Club website. Has anyone heard of this?? It said to just call a dealer and they would do the upgrade for free.
Thanks again!!
Thanks again!!
