Hi guys and gals I am new to this forum. I have a 2000 V70 turbo. The ETS light has been coming on sporadically. I follow the instructions in the owners manual the light turns on. Today I was sitting at a light the engine surged for 2-3 seconds. The ETS light came on immediately after. Any ideas to what could be the cause of the light turning on. I checked for DTC's no codes and the car runs fine when the light is on. There is 101125 miles on the car.

It is getting ready to die. The ETM that is. Once the light comes on and stays on then you get it replaced and it should be covered under the warranty. There is also a software update and if you haven't received that yet you should get it ASAP.

ATM I have no idea in car terms. But "ETM" like I said in my previous post means something.

ETM = Electronic Throttle Module. It is the throttle body of your car. Known to go bad.

There is a nation wide campaign for a software update. diagnosis and replacement can be done at your dealer if that is indeed the bad part it should be a covered part.

 

Just to let everybody know concerning the etm modules. Volvo within the last week has cracked down on replacing these. It is not going to be as easy as before to get it replaced. The want us to do an even revised software update to some vehicles first if that does not work, then next is cleaning the unit, then if that does not fix it and it needs replaced we have to call and get prior approval to do so. So just to let everyone know its not going to be as easy as before. I guess to many were getting replaced that did not need to be.
