V70 Oil Consumption
V70 D4. Oil Consumption
This is my first Volvo, love the car, it’s a 64 plate and done 119000 with FSH
Never bought a car with over 100k on the clock but being a Volvo I wasn’t too concerned.
Bought it from a national dealership, (not Volvo), having had a full service
After 700 miles the oil level indicator lights up asking for .5L Thought it a bit odd but not too concerned, another 235 miles another .5L. Same again after a further 300 miles.
So after 535 miles I’ve used 1L of oil.
At this rate I’ll be using 2L/1000 miles.
Rather than take it to the dealer I bought it from, I called in at a Volvo dealer to get their opinion and they reckon the average for the mileage it’s done should be approx 1L/1000 miles. Said it was excessive and suggested that I take it in for a diagnostic and mentioned that there have been a few cases where Volvo
have replaced the bottom end.
Next conversation was with the dealer I bought it from; they reckon that they’ve had a word with a Volvo and that the oil consumption is not excessive for the age and mileage. I seem to remember reading that Volvo changed the spec of piston rings on some models because of excessive oil consumption.
The dealer is considering their next move; the three month warranty expired a week ago.
Would welcome opinions.
Sorry for the essay!!
