Default Voltage to Air Pump

Hi,

I'm in the process of replacing the air pump and the check valve on my 98 V70XC. I've already removed the air pump and it is completely waterlogged (which is what I expected). However, I wanted to check make sure that the air pump was getting power, so I connected my circuit tester to the air pump electrical connector that is right next to the battery. When I started the car, I only got about 0.2 volts (average) at the connector. I know that the air pump only comes on for a minute or two when you first crank the car.

So I guess my questions are: what's the correct voltage that should be going to the air pump. . .is it 12V? Does the air pump only come on when it's cold outside? Is there a better way to test and make sure voltage is getting to the air pump?

Thanks!

Yes it should have 12 volts.
It will only come on when the car is cold.

So is there a way I can ensure voltage is getting to the air pump without waiting until a cold October morning? It only gets down to about 65-70 degrees this time of year here in NC.

Does it have the relay under the hood or under the car? You can check power at the relay as well. Only other real way would be to find a Volvo scanner and have the air pump activated.
