I've got a fairly loud rattling noise coming from my power steering pump. . .I think. I notice it especially when idling. There's plenty of fluid in the reservoir. Here's a short video of it. . .the sound may not be too good, sorry.

Yes the sound not very good. Try removing the belt and spinning things by hand to check them.

 

Okay, I removed the serpentine belt. Both the alternator and the A/C compressor spin freely with no noise. The power steering pump pulley is difficult to turn. . .I had to muscle it to make it turn, in fact. It seems to be squeaking a bit, too. Should it be that hard to turn?

 

No it shouldn't be that hard to turn. I would say the pump is bad.

 

Okay, thanks. Is replacing the power steering pump difficult? Do you know of a good write-up on that job?

 

It is pretty straight foward I haven't done a write up yet. But it is pretty easy.
