how to replace gear shifter **** on 98 v70 with auto trans

 

Just grab it with both hands and pull it up real hard towards the sunroof. It will pull right off.

Have read a number of fora, watched online tutorials. All show pulling on shifter **** ends in a shifter **** (only) coming away. Fine.
But, with me it always has to be different.

When I pulled, I got the shifter **** + a stem (4.5 in/11cm). Doh!

1. Did I just bust it?

2. In order to replace the button, I need to get the stem out. Difficult to get a grip on it with **** already pulled out. Is there a trick?

The stem comes out with the ****. It comes with a new **** from Volvo. Volvo doesn't sell the button alone, so you have to figure it out from there if you're using an aftermarket button.
