For a few weeks now, we have heard a whining noise that we assumed was the radio or CD. Then we found that it continued after the radio was turned off, and now even after we switch off the ignition key!

Any ideas?

Veeerrrry funny. The car is going in for svc next week, but I wanted some advice from someone who may have had the problem (not the wife problem, the car problem).

sorry I heard that one on Car Talk and couldn't resist. Most likely it is the HVAC fan, it takes upwards of 30 seconds or more to stop after you turn off the ignition. There may be a new one in your future. I don't hear the fan in my 2006 V70 but I can hear it in my '99 S70 ( 140K)

 

I've got the same thing. I found the noise coming out of a little vent near the radio. It's only about 1cm X1cm big and has a little probe or something behind it. I have no idea what it is, sorry.
