Safety fuse takes year(s) to replace after air bags came out??
Hi,
I have a 2023 Volvo XC40 Ultimate Trim.
Got into an accident running into a deer last month and the air bags (both top and bottom) on the driver's side came out. Not much damage visually from the outside, but car won't start anymore. Took it into the body shop and they said they need a 'safety fuse' part to be replaced in the car to start it again and get a full estimate, but apparently that part is not being mass produced at the moment so it's not possible to obtain for potentially months/a year. This sounds absolutely absurd to me, as a fuse seems like a very small part. That being said, do you guys know if I'm being told the whole truth or have any knowledge on where I can find the part? They said they called every dealership in the area even and they don't have any spare ones.
Secondly, insurance (State Farm) covers $600 in rental car fees (which, after a discount, only covers a month). They are saying they can't do anything in this unfair situation to either extend the rental coverage or provide compensation as a total loss (as they cannot fully determine it).
Seems quite unfair.. pay out-of-pocket for rental cars for potentially a year, possibly get a total loss, car value would have also decreased a lot by then.
Any thoughts? All ideas and insights are appreciated. I'm not much of a car person, so I'm kind of blindly following what the body shop has been telling me.
Thanks!
