XC40 Battery Replacement
I own a 2020 XC40 Momentum. The battery is now 5 years old, has been mostly kept on a trickle charger, and the vehicle has less than 10K miles. The battery continues to function flawlessly but at 5 years I'm naturally thinking about replacement.
I've read an older post on XC60 battery replacement and have viewed a good video on replacing the battery, which seems within my limited capabilities. However, I have some questions before proceeding:
1. Will the car's system provide me with any warnings about a deteriorating battery?
2. Will I lose any critical stored data when the battery is disconnected? If so, would this data be useful for my scheduled annual service in a few weeks.
3. Will any of the car's systems need to be reset due to the battery disconnection? (I'm not concerned about radios, personal settings, etc. but those that would affect the car's system electronics).
4. One of the batteries I'm looking at is an Everlast H6 AGM VLRA battery with a 4 year warranty. How long is the Volvo shop battery guarantee?
5. Anything else I need to consider before replacing the battery myself?
Thanks in advance.

Newer cars have a battery monitoring system that you'd want to reset when installing the new battery. Check Youtube for any DIY vids on how to reset. There are tools to maintain the 12V so you don't lose presets or window position sensors but again the DIY vid should show you how to reset what gets lost. I doubt if anything in the DIM (drivers information module) will get lost but not sure about other devices like the radio.
As to the choice of battery, have you considered going with an OEM Volvo battery? There's plenty of dealer web stores (I use Tasca Parts since they are here in New England, but plenty others) who sell Genuine Volvo parts at a discount. Example is they show a 720 CCA battery for your model/year at $125. That should be good enough to last 5-7 years (battery life is really about charge cycles not years). Most warranties are pro-rated anyways so even if you died in year 5, at most you'd get like $20 - which makes that a non-factor to me.

I hadn't considered an OEM battery, assuming they would be much more expensive and perhaps with a shorter expected lifetime. I was also pleasantly surprised that you indicated the OEM battery normally lasts 5-7 years - I would have expected it to be much shorter.
As far as the settings protector, I think for me the risks outweigh the benefits if it's just the personal settings that are lost when the battery is disconnected. I'd feel pretty stupid if I fried the electronics somehow during the process.
Thanks for the information. I'd appreciate any other inputs on this subject.
