Default 2009 Xc60 d5 awd dstc and engine management light on !!!! Help!!!!

Evening all,

Just been driving back down the motorway this evening and while almost home the DSTC service light came up and the car began to drop in power. Had to carry on as ther was no available hard shoulder. I pulled over when I could switched off engine and left for 5 mins, started car again no light then began to move got down the road light came on again and so did the engine management. Car was servearly under powered and felt like it was miss firing got to my house eventually at a very slow rate and before I turned it off I checked fluids and engine sound all seemed normal but no indication of anything really. Turned the car off left it 15 mins and started it again engine seems to be struggling to maintain a constant rhythm yet under a little acceleration seems fine. Cheers for reading and advice would be greatly appreciated and sorry for the long windedness.

Thanks,

Jay

sounds like your car has gone into "limp mode" where the computer allows the car to run but shuts down power and functions to minimize damage.

The DSTC is telling you there's something up with the transmission and/or ABS computer's sensor inputs or connectivity. They in turn feed the engine CPU which decides to cut power. So, first step is to find an OBD2 reader that can read both powertrain and ABS fault codes. The codes will then give your tech a clue as to what to look for.

The root cause can be something as simple as a failed or disconnected wheel or speed sensor - if you pull off a front wheel, you will see a wire plugging into the hub near the bottom of the strut - make sure those are connected and not frayed. The OBD2 code will tell you exactly which sensor is at fault as well.
