I am looking for a third party remote start recommendation. I don't want it bad enough to pay the dealer $500 to do it. Thanks.

 

I inquired about adding remote start to my 2015 when I owned it. Was quoted about that. then I tried it. Turns out I already had it!

Have you tried to make sure you don't already have it?

To activate the optional Engine Remote Start (ERS) in your Volvo:

1. Quickly press the Lock button.
2. Hold the Approach Light button for at least two seconds.

 

I must be an idiot because I have no idea what the “Approach Light” button is. Any clarification would be appreciated.

I have a 2020 Volvo XC60 and the remote looks nothing like that.

 

That is correct, the OP has a 2012 - and that's a 2012 remote. Your 2020 remote can't start the car. ( Your remote has buttons on both sides. Lock unlock, cargo door open and emergency on the other side) Remote start can only be done using the Volvo cars app on your phone for a 2020.

 

Coming back to this. I definitely don't have the option enabled on my car. So is my only option really to go to the dealer and spend $500 to turn it on? Does anyone know of a way to get this done through any other method - third party or otherwise? Thanks.

 

You might look the aftermarket Volvo software possibilities of OrBit or Vdash. I used neither - but people have added keys and functions from what I have read.

 

Thanks. These all appear to be 2019 or newer. I will keep looking.

 

Perhaps there is an after market starter that people have had experience with that actually works with this Volvo?

I hadn't seen this thread so I am glad you pointed it out. It is amazing that you can search and search and still miss something that is right on topic. It does seem very promising as I have the right keys. I will dig in a little more and see if it can be done. Thanks.
