2016 XC60 200K should I buy?
Hi folks, I'm new to the community. I owned a 2004 V70 ten years ago and traded it with 180k miles with a small engine oil leak. Currently I drive a BMW i3 but looking to move back over to the SUV segment and have something to take hour long drives in and light hauls from IKEA. I found a 2016 XC60 that has 198k miles. I have the service history. Every 10k miles the recommended maintenance was completed. Tires, brakes, fluids, filters - all done. The vehicle was driven 100% all highway since I do know the area the owner lived. Only one owner and I've completed the test drive. The vehicle is immaculate and nothing cleaned up under the hood which always makes me suspect. Also being sold at my local Volvo Dealer if that helps. No warranty which I would negotiate and the price is at $10k which I believe is high. This is the T5 4 cylinder turbo model and no the turbo has not been replaced nor the transmission. I know Volvos hold their own and I'm curious what you think I could push this car to with regular routine just as the last owner and also what you would offer the dealer on price point, and a prediction/estimate of timing until the Turbo goes out... Thanks in advance!
A few thoughts
2016 is the first year of that engine/transmission combination - so the jury is still out on the expected longevity.
There will be very few people that would consider purchasing a car with 200,000 miles on it.
You mention turbo replacement - I would expect the turbo to last the life of the car - perhaps an engine problem, maybe a burnt valve (which I have seen on those engines)
You are not going to get a warranty and the car is worth about $9000 or so.
You got rid of your previous Volvo that had 180k miles on it - and are looking at one with more miles?
There are hundreds of those for sale in the US - granted that is the cheapest I saw, and probably the one with the most miles. But for ~$4000 more you can buy one with half the miles.
The transmission probably has the original fluid in it - there is no change interval
