Benlim, how many miles total do you have on your XC60 B5 at this point?
I ask, because I have the same model and it’s going on 12 months soon.. knowing about these problems I stare at the Start/Stop **** every time I turn it.. wondering if the engine will turn over or not.
Mine has about ~4,300 miles (low mileage obviously).. and so far no issues with the battery (knock on wood)
my car mileage is now approx 5700 miles (10 months use). I personally do not really accept such excuse from Volvo...
if the recommended driving is 15min a week, let's say we use an average speed of 60mph,
15min a week is merely 15miles, and a year would be 15x52 = 780 miles

That’s worrisome for sure. Really seems like a faulty part or system bug is causing this issue (at least that’s how I read it).
I’ve left mine sitting for a week at a time without driving it. The infotainment has to come out of a hibernate-like mode, so the vehicle’s system does try to conserve energy in that way… such an odd problem that doesn’t seem to be getting fixed for people.
I finally experienced this problem myself. What a huge hassle. Had to get a tow to a dealer and they’re backed up, so it’ll be next week before they can look at my XC60 B5. Not very impressed with the Roadside Service and trip interruption benefit so far.
How are others who have experienced this problem faring at this point? Did the fix “stick” or did the problem reoccur?
Very unfortunate for you, I will be sending my car over to the service center the day after tomorrow. I experienced it about a month ago, till today, yet to reoccur. It leaves a sense of insecure to me, honestly. Like, I wouldn't know if the car is going to de dead anytime when I drive it somewhere. I bet the Volvo staff will claim there's nothing wrong with the car. My personal suspicion is the excessive background software activities that drained the battery, especially over 2.4GHz network, just my wild guess..
Benlim — I share your suspicion about the software and background/network activity being the source of the problem.
Over on Swedespeed, there’s a discussion about this and people are pointing to the TCAM module battery needing to be charged or replaced, among other troubleshooting they’re performing. It all points to a connectivity related drain of the 12V.
Really unfortunate this is plaguing these vehicles. I bought this for road-trips, but now it’ll be hard to trust it.
Hi all, i sent over my Volvo XC60 B5 to the service centre yesterday. The technical consultant acknowledged the root cause should have been the TCAM battery that is draining the car battery. The software should be version 2.5 now, which should be intended to resolve the software glitch that drains the battery. Also, there is frequent car network signal lost issue, to be tackled the same time. They have called me up that the car is ready and i will be heading over. That's all the update for the time being, so if any new member were to encounter the same issue, perhaps it's the software glitch that causes the TCAM to draw the power from car battery and eventually drains the battery and makes the car dead.
Funny volvo does not mention tcam update or software glitch fixes in its description of what v2.5 is purported to do. Is there some reason volvo is not being transparent and forthright?/
Hi, let's see how it goes. Hopefully with this newest version the problem can be resolved. Fingers crossed. Volvo should have been more proactive to be transparent and initiate a recall for XC60 owners to get the software updated.
My wife's new 2023 XC60 mild hybrid experienced the same problem. Not even a month after purchase in late October 2022, the car was dead in the morning. I was able to jump start the car using the small portable battery jumper gizmo. After the car stated, all those warning lights came on then swithched into turtle mode. I took the car out of the garage for a spin just to see what turtle mode is all about; well, it wouldn't go faster than 10 mph. So I parked the car back in the garage and used a trickle charger to continue charging the battery. Luckily later that evening (I guess the 12 v battery was sufficiently charged by then) the turtle mode disappeared. I was then able to make a service appt for Friday morning and finally got the car back on Monday afternoon. Yeap, they sourced the issue to TCAM and the backup battery and ran a software update, all repaired under warranty, of course. In my 40 years of driving and buying new casr from different makes, I have never experienced having to bring in a brand new car for service over a weekend like this. Sure hope it's a one time thing.
Finally got mine back with v2.5 software installed. They said they charged the TCAM battery and drove it, problem solved. Let’s hope!
There does appear to be new battery saving functionality as I got a message on the dash about needing to start the car to have the infotainment system turn on. Never seen that before.
The release notes say OTA updates are not available for the B5, however, just to be safe, I disabled automatic downloads under the software update menu.
Would be nice to get more details from Volvo about what they’re doing to make the software in the ‘22 models more reliable. The bad taste is still in my mouth.
Our mild hybrid 2022 XC60 died on us last week, luckily we were home, we jump started the 12v battery to get it going and got it to the dealer. Yes, it was a faulty software update that caused the TCam battery to drain the other batteries. The latest 2.5 update was bought out to fix this glitch so with batteries all recharged now fingers crossed it won’t happen again!
Also feeling very uneasy.
2 month old B5 mild hybrid- sudden red message “ critical 12V battery failure; stop vehicle immediately “. Complete loss of power.
At the dealer today ( they’re waiting for feedback from Volvo Sweden). Will update tomorrow
Can you please tell us how you got on with the Volvo dealership? We took ownership of a 2021 XC60 in the UK with just over 7000 miles on the clock and have driven all the way through Spain just over 1000 km with no problems. Now we are stranded in Southern Spain. Battery drained inexplicably overnight. Volvo assist restarted but same problem reoccurred a day later. Appalling support from Volvo assist, left for hours constantly having to chase. Have seen this thread and trying to find out more. seems to be a common thread and seems to be related to a TCAM battery issue?
Good to come to this forum seeing the same problem is happening and not only to my Volvo XC60 B5.
Day 1 - I drove 200miles away from home for a vacation
Day 2 - Drove around 30miles within that town, parked the car at around 9pm
Day 3 - 8am, wanted to load my luggage, surprise that i couldn't unlock my car, called their Support Line and they sent a tow truck to bring it to the nearest service center
Day 4 - got the car back, was told "no problem with the car"
unpleasant experience stranded 200miles away from home.
when confronted with Volvo on the matter, their response was,
"your car is having a low mileage, the battery state of charge is low"
they claim if i don't tend to drive 12,500miles a year, i'm not a worthy Volvo owner.
(NOTE : in earlier message, low mileage = less than 12,500 miles a year)

Just looking on Swedespeed , can't seem to find this topic , would you have a link ?
Many thanks
Not sure what the policy is on cross-linking forums, but look for the thread entitled 2022 XC60 T8 bricked this morning. It has like 100+ replies at this point.
In my case, the dealer was quite good. They removed the antenna, replaced the tcam module (not sure what they did to the batteries in the antenna)... generally seems to be working ok now. BUT, after they replaced the TCAM, I cannot get the Volvo APP to work and it was working fine before the TCAM was swapped out.
[QUOTE=JohninUK;520745]Can you please tell us how you got on with the Volvo dealership?....
With complete transparency, I became obnoxiously annoying:
1. I called every time there was a malfunction.
2. Every time.
3. Videotapped if I could.
4. Contacted the dealership GM
5. Contacted Volvo Customer Service
6. Emailed the service manager
7. Emailed the sales manager
8. Emailed the finance manager
I initially did one at a time. Waited 3 or 5 days, depending on response, It's forward to the GM.
Once customer service responded, then I would send an email every time NO ONE contacted me and/or their response of how I would be helped.
I maintained a paper trail of people ai contacted, date, time, via phone, email, walk-in, drop off, copies of ALL records.
It was like I was an investigator.
I contacted Volvo through any social media platform that advertised how great the XC60 is and posted my issues, the responses, and also the amount of times the vehicle was serviced.
The first problem was the TCAM. All other problems occurred after the update. I've looked into a Class Action lawsuit but not enough people have complained.
i hope software updates help everyone else. I hope mine was the worst and yall have smooth sailing. To this day, I have multiple issues- ALL NEW ISSUES, and the old are still occurring.
May Volvo get what they deserve; even of its not me- SOMEONE please file. Figure out how to get the right number of people for a lawsuit. This will end tragically if it hasn't already.
I'll never buy another Volvo ever! The dealership was 50/50. The Volvo Corp of NA is dragging their feet; yet, my brakes sometimes engage.
Unfortunately, you'll have to contact any and every source of Volvo. Stay on it. Record, record, record! Detailed information. Codes being seen. Its a beat down but for a 60k plus brand new vehicle- its worth the fight!
Best of Luck!
Let's negatively impact Volvo! This is too long and too many people effected.
