Hi guys, i have the 2018 XC 60 T5 Inscription Polestar
Is there a way to change the default view of the cameras when engaging Reverse to show the 360 view instead of the Rear View?
I checked the manual and can't find anything.
My other car shows the 360 view + rear view at once making parking much easier when trying to park centered between lines.

I too wish there was a hack or way to do this. Maybe a hidden setting? I'd love to find out. My previous vehicle had what you described and I must admit that it was MUCH MORE convenient for the 360 camera to be the default when reversing. I get a bit frustrated when I have to manually press the 360 camera button each time I back up.

I'm afraid you are wrong. The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Unlimited I used to own prior to my 2020 XC60 had this feature. Every model year of that particular vehicle since 2017 has had this available. My friend's BMW X7 also has this feature so it's definitely not against Fed Regs.

 

Not the issue... My previous SUV, a 2015 Nissan Murano AWD Platinum had that capability. This vehicle was purchases in CT, USA

Federal regulations require a minimum size of the rear camera. That minimum is not met while in 360 degree view.

Cars outside of the US do not have this. Even early SPA cars had the ability until a software update changed it to comply with federal regulations.

Like I said, there is a minimum required size for the display area showing the rear camera view. When the Volvo is in 360 degree camera mode, the size dedicated to showing the rear camera view does not meet this requirement. So it must default to the rear camera view only.

 

I get it... but you don't...
The Screen on the Volvo is the same size of the one in the Murano.
Physical real estate is not the issue to be able to comply with the Laws that you are so hard stuck on.
It could easily display the Rear View on top and the 360 on the Bottom.

 

Okay, since you don't want to believe the reason, let's just go back to the original question. The answer is no, you cannot default to 360 degree mode. Just ignore the fact that they used to until a software update changed it and Volvo released a statement to us at dealers explaining it was due to federal regulations.

A picture of a SUV sold in the USA by NISSAN that you can go check at any Dealer in the USA that follows the same laws and can be purchased with this feature as I type.
They have it, Volvo doesn't WANT to. I guess that what it boils down to.

 

Your question was asking whether you can default to 360 view. The answer is no and the reason is stated above. It looks like the Nissan is not 360 view, but a split screen showing 360 and rear only. The rear only is bigger than the portion of the Volvo screen dedicated to the rear camera when in 360 mode. That is why it complies, I assume. The Volvo update that took away the ability to default to 360 view was released in 2017 if I remember correctly. So maybe the Nissan doesn't comply but it hasn't been updated.

Your question was not whether a split screen view is possible or will fit. Volvo would need to update the software to show a split screen. Given that their display is mounted with a portrait view as opposed to the landscape view of the Nissan, they would need the 360 view portion to show the vehicle in landscape view. I can see how this would confuse people, so I don't see it happening.

 

I am in Canada and I don't know what the law is here as it pertains to rear view cameras but I do know that on my 2019 XC60, when shifting into reverse, the view defaults to whatever the last used view happened to be. There have been several times when I have driven forward into a parking spot, then switched to 360 view to ensure that I am centered between the lines and close to the front curb. The next time I start the car and shift into reverse it is the 360 view that is displayed and I have to switch to the rear view if that's what I want to see.

 

I am actually curious if the camera can automatically switch to the front camera view when I switch from reverse to drive? That would be very convenient if available.

 

Oh gotcha. Thank God that we are allowed to have this in the U.S. It is much more convenient! I miss the feature. Big time!

 

Similar to how my Santa Fe displayed the rear and 360.

 

Which brings me to another annoyance, when one of the rear or front sensors detects something while the camera view is on, even if fairly far from the car, it will overtake the camera view and instead switch to the screen that shows the sensors. How stupid is that? Why not leave the camera view on and split the screen with one showing the sensor detecting something. Ugh!
