Default Central console outage disaster on 7/4/22

I bought a new Volvo XC60 plug-in hybrid on 6/4/22 and had no problems on my trip to and from Humboldt, we spent several days coming up form LA and drove around in the redwoods. Bought a new Volvo XC60 plug-in hybrid.
After one day rest for laundry and repack I took off for a week in the mountains (Rock Creek , above Bishop), with one our sons and his family (girls 16 and 14, son 8) in 2 cars. Because of space the oldest granddaughter came with us. After a stop for gas below Lone Pine CA the car would not start and was dead. I thought "Oh great, I can use the OnCall feature in my new Volvo to call for help" but no: the whole central console with the SOS button and the OnCall button was unlit and dead. Of course we were in an area where our iPhones (iphone 8+ with T-Mobile) did not get reception, the gas station had no phone connection or cell service (how they do business beats me). Luckily the flip phone of the granddaughter (only for calls and emergencies, no text or data) did have reception (I believe US Cellular) and we were able to call Volvo and got instructions of an emergecny procedure where you put both keyfobs in the front cupholder (marked with a key) and were able to start the car and drive. everytime you start the car we get a message: the vehicle key is removed form the car (there are 2 keys inside the car!) and a message : Ecall failure, bring in to Volvo for service. Of course the nearest Volvo dealer is 300 miles away in San Franciso area).
This procedure is not found in the manual - I had not even noticed the little sign in the rubber cupholder. And who in his right mind under normal circumstances had two key fobs on his person: I had only brought both since we were on vacation with a brand new car and in case of emergency; I usually bring only one key on vacation.
This meant also that many electronic features were inoperative: I could not lock the car unless with an emergency steel key which is inside the keyfob (I knew that but did not dare to do this as I was afraid i might not get back in and be locked out). Also the feature where you push the right button on the tailgate and the tailgates closes and the car locks was inoperative. The tailgate would close with the seond button (just close the gate but not locking the car, but the protective feature that would prevent you from being hit by the tailgate did not work: it almost hit me on the head! The feature where you open the tilgate with your foot under the bumper also did not work.
I think a circuitboard burnt or failed, even though the Volvo service assistant on the phone initially suggested this was just a reprogramming matter: we will see. I took the car into the delaersjip on the way back , and transferred all the luggae (including cooler and camping boxes and suitcases etc) into a loaner Lincoln MKC (a car I had looked into but not testdriven) . Hopefully I do not have to invoke Lemon Law for Cars rules. There seems to be shortages of all kind in parts especially chips (That's ehy I did not preorder a car but bought one on the lot), I heard while waiting for the loaner car horror stories of someone waiting for a new engine for already 4 months.
As this is my first electric car (never had a hybrid, my last car which I still have and planned to sell is 12 years old, another minivan we have is 17 years old , my wife's car which the other part of our party drove is also 12 years old but has only 35,000 miles on it), I hope this is not the beginning of a horror story saga.
There you have it.

Dealing with a similar situation. My car automatically started the v2.2 OTA update. I didn’t realize it, so I manually unlocked it, as I HAD to get into my car. I started the car (even though it really didn’t seem like it wanted to) and off I drove - screen blacked out and almost nothing but the engine working. Clearly I interrupted the update. I haven’t been able to use the fob for locking and unlocking, the app took a crap. Also can’t charge the car, as when I plug it in, the light turns red. Now I have to waste time taking it again for service for it to stay at the dealer for god knows how much time (last time was almost a month).

I have had so many issues with this car since I purchased it in May. I wish I never traded in my perfectly good BMW X5 for the Volvo XC60 Recharge Plug In Hybrid. Such a disappointment.

Wishing you the best of luck!!
