I have a 2019 xc60.
the dash is prompting:
START/STOP
support battery
service required.

never saw this before, is anyone familiar with this issue?

It means your car thinks there is a problem with the support battery (the small battery under the hood) - probably just needs a new one (if it's the original)

 

Is it imperative that I have it replaced? Will it affect the car system in any way? I don’t even use that feature!

 

No, as long as the main battery (in the trunk) is still good - the car will start and drive normally. (is your main battery original?) You will continue to get that message though - until the baby battery is replaced.
