Thank you for your reply. Since I posted it in the Volvo XC60 forum I assumed people would know the make and model. Lol. I did try pushing on the lift gate while activating it, no luck.

My 2010 Is XC60 had the exact same issue an issue. I took it to the dealer and they told me it was a short ground between is Queen the hatch mechanism mechanism in the tailgate and and the ECM which is under the glove Box.. That cost me 150 bucks just to get that information. So I take out all the carpets and I follow the wire all the way through and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it back to the dealer $350 this time and they tell me it's the ECM unit that has to be replace. So I ran a wire from the battery to under the - and put in a pressure swit's a pressure switch and then dubbed it in where the wire goes in to the ECM
I should have mentioned that if you are gonna hot wire it to get an inline fuse 15 amp so that if anything goes wrong you don't overheat the wire

I got the problem fixed at the dealers. They had to remove the inside panel covering to the gate. Then unbolt the latch from the gate to open gate. The latch would not release, cut it off and install new latch. Latch cost was 230.00 plus labor and tax for a total of approximately 420.00.
Taking the inside panel cover off while the gate is closed and not wrecking the trim that goes over the top corners is doable. That was my concern.
Vehicle is A 2017 XC60 T5.
