So I'm back at North Point Volvo with yet another problem which has cropped up on my 2010 XC60 T6. A few weeks back I brought it in because of whining noises coming from under the hood. They told me that it was the brake vacuum pump that was leaking oil and that oil was hitting a belt. Price tag $500! I complained to Volvo North America and they agreed to cover it. Problem: the whining is still there. Bring it back today and North Point tells me it's the Oil Trap box going bad and that sound comes from a "back draft" of sorts. Removing the dipstick eliminates the noise but putting it back brings it back.

So I'm wondering if the brake vacuum pump was really an issue in the first place. The deal said they'll ask Volvo North America if they'd help out so I'm waiting on that.

In the meantime, I'm wondering how much longer will this vehicle last me. The sunroof leaks and that's about $500 to fix, a motor mount needs to be replaced and that's $500. Seems I'll be $500'd to death.

 

The vacuum pump leak is very common but I've never had one cause noise. The problem was the breather all along, though I don't doubt the vacuum pump needed to be resealed. $500 is way too high. Labor is about 1.5 hours and the seal kit is about $90
