Default In "Sport" mode accidentally! 2015 XC60

Hi - new here. Trying to determine if two things are related...

As the gearshift moves fairly easily from side to side (automatic vs Sport), mine got pushed over without me noticing until I hit the gas from a standstill and the car revved so loud it startled me - the RPM dial maxed out but the car slowed once I pulled my foot off the gas. I saw on the dash that the gear was in "S" +/- and instantly knew what happened...my kiddos backpack knocked it into Sport gear.

My question: I've noticed that my start/stop function has ceased - for months - and we have been in very mild weather. My memory is that it seems to coincide with this accidental Sport mode event. Could the flywheel have been damaged? I got no pop up messages and at a recent maintenance visit nothing was noted and the service tech brushed it off saying "lots of factors go into the start-stop function." He's correct, I looked up the parameters, and based on my driving during this time, none of those would apply. I'm concerned something is wrong and we're missing it. Thoughts or advise is appreciated!

It's probably due to battery charge, AC or outside temperature.

If you press the MY CAR button, go to Drive-E, then select Start/Stop, you can see a list of reasons why Auto Start/Stop is not available. I get "electrical system" increasingly often. I believe it's due to the battery performance degrades over time so it needs more time charging.
