Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge Locking in Charger
I purchased a 2022 Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge to pick up in Sweden, but it was delayed. Volvo upgraded my vehicle to a 2023 and I took delivery in the US on 12/2022. The car is great — except when I charge it. I have a Siemens Versi charge Model VG2 that I used with my previous MB B250e that is in my garage, so there is no reason to lock my car when it is in the garage. However, when I’m ready to leave the charger is locked into the car and I have to lock the car, then unlock the car to get it to release. It’s a hassle to say the least. I went to the dealer and they had not heard of this issue (I live in Northern California). The dealer had me pull up to their ChargePoint charger and put the nozzle in, wait for it to begin charging and then pull out the nozzle. No problem and no locking. I have been in contact with Siemens and they have not had an issue with the charger not releasing from an unlocked car. They said it was a Volvo problem. When I contacted Volvo US they said they hadn’t heard of this and said it was a Siemens problem. I believe it’s a Volvo problem. Any ideas on how I can leave my car unlocked in the garage, charge it and then disconnect and drive without locking, unlocking and disconnecting?
AFAIK, in our 2021 T8, you must unlock the car before you can remove the cable. Yes, as you describe it means you must first lock it, then unlock it. There is no work around. It isn't that difficult...insert connect cable, push lock button on door handle, then touch door handle to unlock and remove cable...you'll get used to it.
My 2023 XC60 Recharge all of a sudden doesn’t lock the charging cable which is, among other things a safety feature. The interesting thing is that it only happens with my Type 2 (220V) chargers. The Type 1 (110V) that came with the car originally, works fine. And I think it all started after my 2.9 update.
