Wind Tunnel Noise Inside Car
I am hoping this video can suffice but we just bought a 2018 XC60 with 45,000 miles on it and it seems that when I am driving I can hear this wind tunnel like sound coming from outside the car and I want to say from the tires. The tires are basically new and there doesn't seem to be any issues with them as far as pulling to one side etc. so I'm not sure if the sound is just normal for this car as I am used to a smaller car or if something is actually wrong. I initially thought it was the wind hitting the car, which still could be the case but again, not sure. My husband doesn't seem to notice like I do. Does anyone else experience loud wind tunnel like noise when driving? I don't necessarily hear it when accelerating and it doesn't increase with speed or anything, it seems pretty consistent when I am just driving along and then stopping when the vehicle is stopped.

No offense, but I think you're being hypersensitive. Ambient noise, as heard in the video is normal. Even the best cars with sound proofing and noise cancelling technology can not eliminate all road noises.
My best advice is to add some soft music while driving.
You indicate that the tires are "New",..... was an alignment done when the tires were installed? It's possible that you have excess Toe that is creating the sound with the new tread, yet the car will track straight.
Whenever I buy new tires, it's always worth getting a 4 wheel alignment. Maximizes tire life and keeps the road noise down.

I just bought a 2019 XC60 T6 AWD r-design with 22,000 miles …and heard this on the test-drive and attempted to have it investigated… was told after mechanics drove it 0h it’s the low-profile tires, oh it’s the turbo, oh it’s the “air-box”, the windows etc etc….The Car drives superb. Silky smooth, but after 3 hrs on the inter-state this wind tunnel noise was downright annoying and does take the pleasure out of driving!! So there goes that explanation “ you are being hypersensitive!!”
it definitely bothers me! And if it was an engine purr then that’s completely different and accepted as part of the “sound experience “. But I totally agree with you, that I want to know how to fix and get rid of this unmistakable and down-right annoying sound!!!
( by the way, I did ask to drive another to compare before the sale, but no such similar model was on the Volvo lot…)
I got the car 2 weeks now and am feeling like I would not have bought it, if this is something not addressable and knowing I would have to suck it up, endure and just turn up the volume…..
Please let me know if you got it fixed somehow! Thanks

ps just found out these cars were manufactured in CHINA and Volvo is fully owned by a Chinese holding group that also owns 15 other car companies!!!

Hi,
I'm lifting an old thread as I happened to land here and listened to your video. Very interesting, and I'm wondering if you've come to any conclusions?
I bought a V60 Cross Country 2019 a couple of months ago and I’m experiencing almost identical noise. It's different from regular road noise and is directly affected by the type of asphalt. I think I might even have more noise than you do.
I've soundproofed the wheel arches and tried to find the source using a wireless microphone and several recordings.
It's bad enough that I'm actually considering selling the car.
Yes, I’m also sensitive to this kind of thing and have worked as a sound engineer in my professional life.
I find it hard to tell if it's G#2 or G#3 in tone, but it could be a mix. When I listened to your video, it seemed to be around G2/3 – about half a tone lower.
If you have any information to share, I would be very grateful.
Best regards,
Peter in Sweden
