XC60 Transmission, gearbox or solenoid
Hi to all Volvo users
My XC60 D3 2011 one fine day as soon as you get into 6th gear, gave a knock and the transmission warning with dstc deactivation appeared on the screen. Turned off the car, then back it on and switched to manual mode. The warning comes out only when you take the 5/6th gear. The mechanic said to change the transmission. Then he said the gearbox might be damaged too, what he suggests is to change it. I read on forums about the problem of the linear solenoid, or changing valve body, flushing gearbox oil etc. Since the vehicle does not have any problems either in D or in manual up to 4th gear, is there a possibility to match the real problem without changing everything in the transmission system?
Some idea of a Mechanic or someone who experienced the same issue would be very appreciated.
Cheers!

have you had the car scanned for any transmission fault codes? have you checked fluid color/levels? (note the 6 speeds may not have a dipstick. If the drain plug has an inner bolt and an outer bolt then your model has a fill tube which sets the level (level is set when the transmission is warm (ie 55C) and you over fill the transmission, then remove the inner bolt which drains to the top of the fill tube..). So a few easy things to do 1) try cleaning/reseating the TCU and related connectors to the transmission 2) Have a drain/fill done and run the drain through filter paper to inspect for debris. 3) have a fully equipped shop scan for codes and signaling (ie using VIDA or similar scanner, not a $100 OBD device). That will give you some idea of whether you have a solenoid/valve body issue (on some models these can be serviced with the transmission in the car) vs something internal to the transmission.
