Friend of mine just purchased an '02 XC70. He wanted me to ask about the shifter. It has the slots for P to 3 like normal, but he said if you slide it to the right it has + and -. He wants to know what is the deal with that. Thanks

 

It is to shift the transmission manually. When he puts it to the side have him look in the speedo cluster and he will be able to see what gear it is in.

 

The geartronic or what ever Volvo calls it, is fun when you try it at first. After a while it's just boring!! And i think it shifts slower than normal mode.

 

Ask him to read the owner's manual just to get to know the XC better. Or ask him to visit volvoxc.com for huge more info on XC.
