Default 1998 XC70, help me love it again.

I fell in love with this car when I first saw it. It has been a love-rate relationship ever since. For the past year I have been having problems, upshift arrow (blinking) and check engine light come on. The diagnosed bad throttle position sensor. It has been replaced 3 or 4 times. This problem seems to be more of a warm weahter problem. Not bothered by it much through our past winter here in Iowa. When the warning lights come on, it surges or cuts-out. Not exactly reliable when I need the burst of speed to get onto the highway. Sometimes it will not down shift when you give it gas, other times it will not upshift until about 4000-4500 rpms. At stops it idles rough, a majority of the time (not always). It I shift to neutral it idles fine. To add insult to injury, I also get the brake and ABS light coming on, but not as frequent as the other two. Thanks for your help, Eric

What codes did they pull?
Sounds like you might have a bad PNP switch (Park Nuetral Position)

For the ABS sounds like a bad ABS module. You can have it rebuilt by following the link.

My service garage sent my car to the Volvo dealer up the road. It turns out the connection to the throttle position sensor had a bent pin and the catch was not locking down. They repaired/replaced the connector and the car has been running great ever since. No errors have come up since. Eric
