Default Key Reminder Issue

The key reminder indicator (dinging sound) and interior lights remain on in my 1999 XC70 while driving. I removed the related fuses and my battery died. There does not seem to be any other issue with the car and once I received a boost, my car is running fine. I think the issue is related to the tailgate locking mechanism. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

I would check the drivers door first.Look at the little foot well lamp and see if it is on when you close the door and lock the car.If it is still on then the lock is bad.
Does the rear hatch lights stay on or the rest of the interior lights?

All the interior lights stay on. I looked at the tailgate lock and it looked OK, I will look at the driver side front door too. I removed the fuses for the interior lights and the key reminder and now my radio is requiring a code to be entered. This is a used car, I do not have the code. Is there any way to rest the code or find out what the code is? Please advise. Thanks again.

Take your vehicle regristration to the nearest dealer and they will look up the code and give it to you for free.

You were right. The driver door lock needs to be replaced. Thanks for the insight, I was able to go to the dealership and avoid costly diagnosis charges. Now can you tell me how much this should cost to replace? I am waiting for the dealership to get back to be with a quote. Also can you recommend a good mechanic, experienced with Volvo's in Westchester, NY? I am new to the area and to Volvo ownership, I'm sure I can do better than using a dealership for repairs. Thanks again.
