Default XC70 broken pcv tube

Has anyone ever had a broken pcv tube? The Volvo delaer is saying it can cause severe damage and could result in a blown engine. They say it's not a problem with some Volvo models but in the 2005 XC70 turbo it is. They want almost $2000 to repair which includes replacing the timing chain (I thought it was a belt), replace seals, etc. They say it cause a negative vacuum in the engine and doesn't let the oil flow correctly.

I am not sure what they are talking about. Volvo's typically need the PCV service. The air box is below the throttle body and infront of the timing chain cover. This service usually cost about $200. Its common for the hose to collapse. The replacement hose and PCV parts come in a kit worth about $60. Find another dealer.

I am fairly certain the 2.5 Turbo in your car is the same as in mine. If you have another engine in there I could be wrong.

I beleive they are talking about this service. But if all that is broken is the tube replace just it. I think you are referring to part A in the pic http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-S60-P2/E...-392-928-4736/

The entire system as a whole seldomly fails. Hoses break or clogs happen. My mechanic was very honest. I went in for the PCV service and he said he would take it apart and examine it first. He did...cleared it out relace a hose and said all else was fine. I paid maybe $80.
