The alarm on my 2004 XC70 AWD goes off randomly- usually pretty soon after I lock the car and leave it.

those are telling you there are codes that are set. Start by getting a code reader that can read both chassis and ABS codes then note the codes and clear them. after a drive do a second scan to see what has reset. Sometimes when there are that many codes it can be an indication of a voltage issue or a connectivity issue - at some point in time if the system voltage dropped below the acceptable threshold and the computers may set false positive codes so best to clear them. If there's a truly bad device, the codes will reset pretty straight away.
