bad vibration
Okay, need some quick help here.
My girlfriend is coming home from school tomorrow with her volvo and called me in distress about her car. she said the car would shake, especially though the wheel upon acceleration and she wasn't sure if she should drive it.
i walked her though checking all the fluids and whatnot and sounded just like a broken motor mount to me over the phone...told her to drive it back from class to her house, then she could probably drive it home tomorrow and i would fix it.
she called me when she got home and said that at highway speed the whole car was shaking and people probably thought she was having a seizure...nothing beyond a CEL on the dash...no other warning lights.
she also said she had a bad smell in the car, but couldn't really describe it to me.
she also said the shaking was dependent on the speed of the engine, if she went over 2krpm she said it got really bad.
so could this be a failure with the AWD system? timing belt tensioner?
i'm used to my FWD and timing chain, so hopefully someone has some insight.
she also said at idle the car sounded normal, not squealing or grinding coming from the engine, and no difference when the climate control was on or off.
thanks for you help guys, basically i want to know what system could be causing this and if she is okay to limp the car an hour home tomorrow or if she should have it towed to a shop tonight?
TIA

Look for something amiss on the driveline and/or front suspension. Could be: tire (bad tire / loose wheel bolts), wheel bearing, axleshaft, strut, etc. Support the car on jackstands and put it in gear. Have someone run it to 2k rpm and look at the front wheels.
PS - viggenkid - what year Viggen? I've had a few 9000 CSEs. Now I have the V70R!
