Default Can someone explain the generations of the XC70's AWD?

Hi guys!

I really like the XC70 and I'm planning on getting one when I can afford one. It will most likely be used, so I was wondering what to look for or avoid. ie the good years and the bad years.

I've heard that the mechanics of the AWD system have changed. Can someone explain the mechanics of it to help me determine which I'd look for? (I'm a mechanical engineer and I will understand it if you get technical. In fact that's what I'm looking for).

Audi and Subaru have similar but different full time systems that I've researched, and I really like Audi, but they're not the XC70, so too bad for them!

So what do you know? I want to learn any and all you have to offer!
