Default Considering buying a 1999 xc70-reliable?

I am considering buying a 1999 v70. I am looking at two, both are the v70 cross country model. 99k and 82k miles respectively. 82k one has new transmission too.
Here are the links:
99k

82k

Also, I get the feeling the second one, which I'm seeing tomorrow, is a dealer and not a private seller.

I've read online reviews and they seem mixed. More than half are very happy with their cars well over 120k miles. A surprising number seemed to have similar issues with lack of reliability. Mainly the dash lights (check engine, etc), a/c or heater core, front end work, etc.

I've browsed this subforum but I know its going to give a tilted view of reliability.

I drive about 10k miles a year.

What is the general consensus on this car's reliability and which of the two, assuming similar condition, would you choose?
Is this a car I should really take to a dealer or independent shop for a pre-purchase inspection?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Well, Ive done a ton of research last night and this gen xc70 seems to have pretty consistent issues, one of which is the awd system. I'll skip these.
