Default Considering an Early XC70

Hello everyone.

To start, I am brand new to the Volvo world and I really don't know hardly anything about Volvos, but I am wanting to replace my '86 BMW 535i with a Volvo XC70 and I have a few questions. Hopefully a few people can help me out.

An early XC70, 01-02 for example seems to be right in my price range and offers just about everything I want, AWD, decent performance, good fuel economy and lots of storage. Before I make the decision to purchase an XC70 I have a few questions:

1. What is the reliability realistically like?
2. What mileage is considered 'too high to bother with?'
3. What should I expect to pay for a decent XC70 from 01-02?
4. What are some maintenance items that absolutely need to be done at certain intervals?
5. I know there are plenty of independent BMW places to get pre-purchase inspections done, but I rarely see independent Volvo places. Should I just go to the dealer for a PPI?

Thank you very much!

PPI is the first step.Bosch Service Center is my favorite. If not in your area, most independent BMW shops work on Volvos. Ask your repair shop.

Good site! Still, a PPI is your best bet. Most of your questions will be answered at that point.Question #1, depends on maintenance history,#2 ditto,#3, look on Autotrader for your area, for your local market.#4 timing belt and #1&2.Here is a helpful hint, ask the the seller to split the PPI and if they balk, walk away.

I now have had my 01 XC70 for month and I am VERY happy! It was always dealer serviced and right after my purchase I took it to them and had them do the Tbelt.
I also got a 12k/1yr ext. warranty since that 5speed trans can cost 3k plus to overhall.
I LOVE the pep I get from the turbo and on my 1st long trip I was pushing 30mpgs!
I tried the manual shift option last week and its kinda cool!
